PENANG – Ashwin Gunasekeran, Chief Executive Officer of the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), has been appointed Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events at Taylor’s University.
The appointment recognises his experience in the business events industry and his contributions to promoting Penang as a destination for international conventions and exhibitions.
Gunasekeran, who leads PCEB in advancing Penang’s presence in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector, will contribute industry insights and practical knowledge to students in the hospitality and events management programme.
“The collaboration provides an opportunity to bridge industry practice with academic learning while encouraging students to explore careers in the business events sector,” he said.
The appointment comes as PCEB marks its 10th anniversary in 2026, celebrating a decade of efforts to position Penang as a competitive business events destination in the region.
The collaboration is also expected to strengthen engagement between industry and academia while supporting the development of future talent in the sector.
