JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa was selected as the 'Michelin 1-Key Hotel' in the global hotel evaluation selection organized by the Michelin Guide.
Michelin Key is a newly introduced hotel selection about 125 years after the creation of the Michelin Guide.
The overall accommodation experience is evaluated and a three-step key is given based on a comprehensive hospitality experience such as design, service, and location.
It is divided into three keys that provide 'unforgettable experience', two keys that mean 'excellent experience that will be remembered for a long time', and one key that means 'very special accommodation'.
This evaluation is the result of a group of experts reviewing more than 5,000 hotels around the world over the past four years.
Last year, Michelin Key was introduced in 15 major destinations, including △ France △ Italy △ Japan △ America, and this selection was completed by evaluating more than 7,000 hotels around the world.
JW Marriott Jeju was highly praised for its space design, delicate service, and excellent location, which reinterpreted the atmosphere of hanok and Jeju's natural beauty.
Located on the southern coastal cliff of Jeju, JW Marriott Jeju's architecture inspired by Korean tradition and Jeju's volcanic topography is mainly made of basalt and wood.
On top of that, the guest room designed by world-renowned hospitality designer Bill Bensley was evaluated as showing its original aesthetics as a luxury resort by its warm yellow tone that resembles the natural beauty of Jeju's canola flower fields.
The lobby full of natural lighting was well received for its spatial beauty with a modern reinterpretation of the structure of traditional hanok, which combines barrel windows facing the sea and elaborate wooden decorations.
The Michelin Guide also mentioned the gastronomy section. The Jeju-style restaurant "Fox Water," which presents the freshest seafood in collaboration with the nearby haenyeo fishing community, was evaluated as a dining that combines locality and creativity.
